For many years, the Savoy family, through the Savoy Foundation, has been dedicated to funding innovative research projects to find a cure for epilepsy. It is the only private foundation in Canada supporting research across the country.
Every year, it gives numerous scholarships and grants to students and doctors across Canada in hopes of finding a remedy. Many of the scholarship recipients have become famous in their field, often as a result of the funding they received from the Foundation. In fact, all of the doctors on the scientific committee were recipients. They all are grateful for the scolarships they received and are delighted to give back by serving on the committee.
This year has been challenging because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Scolarships were cut substantially as a result. The demand for scolarships has far from dimished. This means that your support is even more important to help us reach as many recipients as we can.
Since 1971, more than $10 million have been granted to researchers from many different countries working in the field of epilepsy in universities and hospitals across Canada. And this must continue! You can consult our website to view testimonials about our work along with the projects we fund as well as information on the history of the Foundation.
If you do not already know, epilepsy affects approximately 2 to 3% of the population worldwide. Close to 400,000 Canadians suffer from it. Each year, 20,000 new cases are diagnosed, of which 50% are children under the age of 10. Anti-seizure drugs only work in 60% of cases while the others have medically intractable seizures. Although much progress has been made, the cause remains unknown in many cases.
Without your support, all of our efforts would not be possible. This year, you can make a donation through PayPal by going on this page of our website. You can also send a cheque in the enclosed return envelope or donate with a VISA credit card.
We thank you in advance for your generous support as always
